Search marketing
In plain English search engine marketing is placing text ads on web search engines and bidding for keywords. When a user searches for your keyword in a search engine and you are bidding for this keyword, you ad will show if you have bid high enough.
Simple enough.
But not quite.
As the search engine marketing industry evolved and the competition intensified, the "often used keywords" became more and more expensive. When everybody started to bid on same keywords, the cost of each of these keywords went up and eventually the cost of conversion just did not meet the ROI considerations.
So the companies that thought search marketing was about "throwing in some keywords" and "bidding the highest bid" went home burning their case and in some cases made the internet agencies and search engine richer.
The game has changed now. Search marketing is not a face to face war anymore, its more of a guerrilla warfare. Companies need to employ processes, technologies and ideas that haven't been thought of to beat competition.
We figured this out early, we saw most of the internet marketing gurus not advertising themselves in search engines, we could see why. But we do. 80% of our new business comes from online channels. And we spent a hell lot less on marketing.
